Dr Mike Roddis

Mike qualified as a doctor in 1978 from Manchester University and after training as a senior registrar at the Hammersmith, became a consultant pathologist in 1985 at Barnet and Edgware hospitals. He became medical director of The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Essex in 1996. He left the NHS in 2002 to become an independent medical management consultant. He established Healthcare Performance Ltd with Dr Emma Sedgwick in 2008. He still continues to hold a GMC licence to practice medicine.
Mike works with NHS Trusts to help them improve the performance of doctors. In particular, he works with individuals to improve their interpersonal and professional skills, and with teams of clinicians who seek help to improve their performance. Mike also works with groups of medical undergraduates and trainees on career planning and development, and runs workshops for trainees preparing to go through the transition from junior to consultant, and wishing to improve their communication skills with colleagues. He is especially interested in helping doctors confront difficult issues constructively and to improve their team skills.
Mike’s role as medical director of an acute trust for 6 years meant that throughout that time he was regularly involved with a variety of ethical and legal matters relating to clinical practice. He was also responsible for setting up one of the first clinical ethics committees.
