The healthcare market is changing rapidly. One such change is the opportunity for dental professionals to form a company (known as a dental body corporate) to provide dental services.

Legal differences

The legal position for a company differs to a partnership. Unlike a partnership, a company is a separate legal entity. In the event of a clinical negligence claim, the company as well as the individual could be sued. The company therefore needs to ensure that its own interests as well as those of its healthcare staff are covered. The Corporate Indemnity Solution is designed to do just that.

The solution

The MDU's Corporate Indemnity Solution combines several key elements:

• Insurance cover for individual dentists (for their work for the company) via individual membership of the DDU ¹
  
• Insurance for the company to provide cover for alleged clinical negligence by other employed staff ²
• Corporate clinical indemnity insurance for claims made directly against the company ²
• Individual membership of the DDU for practice managers and nursing staff employed by the company and relating to their work for the company
• Corporate membership of the MDU for the company providing access to a range of additional benefits such as risk management advice, training sessions and DDU publications.
