Online risk assessment
Risk management is the process of identifying, assessing and reducing risk. It can be applied to dental practice to improve the quality of care to patients and help reduce complaints and claims
The DDU's free online risk assessment tool enables you to manage risk in your practice. By answering a series of questions, it will help you to identify potential areas of risk and create an action plan to deal with them.
Complete with GDC guidance and DDU advice, the tool is designed to help you reduce the possibility of a complaint or claim.
Risk management in dentistry - part 1
This first part looks at the issues surrounding communication. In the DDU's experience, complaints and claims rarely arise solely from problems with clinical management. They are often caused by deficiencies in administration systems, procedures and lines of communication.
This module has been designed to look at communication from a patient's perspective, in particular the impression that a new patient may gain from the practice. It looks at areas such as advertising, the appointments system and emergency care.
Features of the online risk assessment include:
- Extensive reference material - each question is supported by GDC guidance or DDU advice which explains the rationale behind it.
- Prioritised action plan - on completion you will receive a personalised action plan to address any areas of risk identified. The plan includes valuable risk management advice and is prioritised to enable you to focus on the essential points first.
- Online benchmarking - The benchmarking facility allows you to compare your results against the UK and Ireland average. You can also compare results against previously saved assessments, allowing you to chart your progress.
- CPD certificate - the module qualifies for 3 hours continuing professional development (cpd) and you will be provided with an online certificate as proof of completion.
For the assessment to work you will need to disable any pop-up blocker * you may have installed.
Part 2 will be available in due course.
* The risk assessment tool will open in a new (pop-up) window. You will therefore need to disable any pop-up blocker or set it to allow pop-ups on the DDU website.
