The DDU’s experienced team of in-house solicitors specialise in clinical negligence and have a proven track record of succesfully defending claims. They also work with the advisory department on criminal cases, complaints to the regulatory bodies and disciplinary proceedings.

Solicitors assisting members with GDC conduct allegations avoided any sanctions against our members in over 90% of cases.

Charles DewhurstCharles Dewhurst LLB

Charles is head of Legal Services and has worked in medical and dental law since 1976. He qualified as a solicitor in 1978 and was a partner in private practice for 11 years before joining the MDU in 1993. He manages the in-house department and assists dental members with a range of legal issues, including clinical negligence claims and complaints to the GDC.

 


Joanne BrooklsJoanne Brooks LLB MA

After graduating with a law degree, Joanne obtained the LLM in Medical Ethics and Law from King’s College London. Following training in private practice, she joined the MDU’s in-house legal department in 2000.

 

 

 


Joanne BatemanJoanne Bateman LLB

Joanne qualified as a solicitor in 1996 and worked in private practice for four years, specialising in personal injury and clinical negligence, including dental negligence. She joined the MDU in 2000.

 

 

 


Tamsin ThomasTamsin Thomas MA

Tamsin qualified as a solicitor in 1996, having previously obtained Master Degree in Medical Law and Ethics. Since then she has specialised in medical and dental law and joined the MDU in 1999 after three years in private practice.


 

 


Victoria WilsonVictoria Wilson LLB


Victoria qualified in 1994 and joined the MDU soon after. She specialises in dental claims and also represents members who are called before the Conduct Committee as part of the GDC's discliplinary procedures.
